Bookshop: Helmut Newton's Illustrated
Published Tuesdays and Fridays, The Photography Post Market column highlights items for sale in our market. We also invite guest contributors to add items to our shops.
In my last market post, I had mentioned how Oui compilations really set me off in search of vintage photographers and models. In the next few weeks I’ll be posting some of my findings… First up is Helmut Newton.
Helmut is a GIANT. I can’t count how many times I’ve been on set and seen his photos floating around as “reference”. Helmut managed to create his own style based on his own obsessions, stuck to it, and was incredibly successful at selling it. All photographers set out for the artistic independence and recognition that Mr. Newton obtained.
Helmut produced his own oversized magazine in the ‘80-’90s, titled Helmut Newton’s Illustrated. There were four issues in total, all reflecting collections of his personal work. These issues can be quite expensive, and have since been reproduced in a single hardback collection. Unfortunately, I don’t have the first issue, but I am offering the three other issues for the single price of one.
