Guest Contributor: The Sunday Best
The Sunday Best is a multimedia project produced by Natalie Conn and Peter Smith from the far-off nether-region of Portland, Maine.
Twice a month, The Sunday Best uploads a new sound, photo, or video portrait of a person who has piqued their interest. The profiles focus on the appreciation of analog or handmade—whether that’s making your own ice boat, re-wiring old keyboards for music, making smashed bottle sculptures, playing air guitar, building a house, making your own honey, carrying a giant cross and walking with it to Arizona, raising goats, shooting film, making pasta, collecting thousands of seeds, or beating up sausages. TSB doesn’t discriminate against digital technology though- even cell phone images can be beautiful and may someday be included in a profile, but we love the tactile quality of film and try to use it often.
Part of the experiment is in portraiture. Another part of the experiment is to see whether artistic media projects can be funded through the collective cooperation and trust of a network of donors. TSB does not plan on having advertisers. Small donations from viewers will eventually add up and hopefully we will be able to afford more film, more processing, and a better Sunday Best.
