Humble Arts' 31 Women in Art Photography: Post Game
To say that the opening of Humble Arts’ 31 Women in Art Photography was a mob scene would be an understatement. With a line halfway around the block by 6:30, the atmosphere was more like the opening of an exclusive night club than the opening of “a five-week exhibition celebrating 31 of the most innovative women in new art photography”. For those of you didn’t rush the doors at 6pm and paid the price, I’ll give you a quick overview of what you missed.
Affirmation Arts boasts a roomy and refined 2200 sq. ft. space which provided a perfect location for the show – comfortably packed, the wine bar remained accessible throughout. The photorati came out in droves. Among the artist featured floated familiars such as Sam Falls, Lucas Blalock, Amani Olu, Will Steacy and Marla Leigh Caplan. The pieces, all nicely “finished” were hung simply and thoughtfully. Some standouts…
I’ve seen Amelia Bauer’s piece from her Toile series in a number of exhibition contexts and it never fails to catch my eye.

Amelia Bauer: Toile #4
Jessica Eaton’s Shadow is a pleasant surprise in terms of scale and print medium.

Anna Krachey’s lovely and understated piece called to mind a Portuguese Man O’ War adrift in Caribbean… succinct and transcendent.

Sarah Palmer’s stunning and suggestive Birth of the World, is a delight to see in person.
