Canon Faceoff: S90 vs. G11.

There’s been some debate lately around the TPP watercooler kitchen table laptops.
Which Canon will be our next go-to snappycam? The G11 (Kate loves it, I hate it), or the S90 (I love it, Kate’s not so sure).
How will we advise Danielle which to purchase?? Please help us resolve this terrible conundrum, reader!!!

My vote would be for the LX5 as well. I've had the LX3 for about 2 years and I love it. Just wish it had a slightly longer zoom (which the LX5 has). The Canons are OK, but the speed and RAW quality of the Panny is on a whole 'nother level.

Yes, the LX5 looks like it will be pretty sweet. Slightly bigger sensor than the two Canons and higher maximum ISOs. It's lighter than the G11 (but heavier than the S90) and does HD video too. Bear in mind that late in August was when the last three models of the Canon G-series (and the S90 too) were announced, so you might want to hold off until you hear what's coming next.

same sensor. faster lens on s90. much much better ergonomics on the g11 than the s90. much easier to change controls on the g11. that being said, the s90 hands down because a compact digital camera should be about compactness. with the size of the g11, you might as well get something with a bigger sensor.

I have owned both. The G11 was just too big and heavy so I sold it and bought an S90. It is lighter, smaller and has a terrific f2 lens - faster than the G11. The quality of the photographs is virtually the same. However, the 'best' camera is always the one that you have got with you - and you are more likely to be carrying the S90.

s90, I recently got on. fits in pocket, manual modes like the g11, good image quality, and same size chip.

The S90 is the best camera I've used, all things considered. The G10 is a great design but falls short, the G11 is no better than the S90 - the S90 having the advantage of being truly pocket sized. The LX5 is no better. The only one that came close for me was a Ricoh, I think it was called GR111 or something, but the price is crazy.
